Frequently Asked Questions

Guidance answers about business services and market entry

Company Formation

What types of companies can I establish?

In Saudi Arabia, the most common structures for a foreign investor are the limited liability company, the simplified joint-stock company, and a foreign company branch. Legal forms differ in other countries; see each country page.

How long does company formation take?

In Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Investment Investor Guide estimates investment-registration processing at 10 working days after the file is complete. The full duration depends on preparing and legalising your documents. In the United Kingdom, online registration is usually within 24 hours. We write the estimate in your quotation.

Can a foreigner own the company in full?

Saudi Arabia: yes, in most service activities. UAE: yes, on the mainland in most activities. Oman: yes, except excluded activities. Kuwait: yes, with a Direct Investment Promotion Authority licence. Qatar: up to 100% with Ministry of Commerce and Industry approval. Bahrain: yes, in permitted activities. Every country has exceptions; see its page.

What capital is required?

Saudi Arabia: service activities have no statutory minimum in the Investor Guide. Fully foreign-owned commercial activities have a minimum of SAR 30 million. Oman: there is no minimum for an LLC. Egypt: a one-person company requires EGP 1,000.

What documents are required?

For Saudi Arabia under the ordinary registration route: the foreign participating company's commercial registration, its financial statements for the last financial year, and legalisation or apostille according to the issuing country. Premium Residency holders are exempt from these documents. See each country page for details.

Free Zones & Markets

What is the difference between a free zone and the mainland?

The mainland lets you work directly in the local market. A free zone has its own licensing authority and rules and suits certain activities and international dealing. We compare the options for your activity.

Which zone or market suits my activity?

It depends on your customers, activity type, ownership and cost. Tell us your activity and we suggest two or three options with the reason.

Can I open a bank account for the company?

Yes, after formation. The bank applies know-your-customer procedures and often requires the authorised signatory to attend. We prepare your bank file.

How many visas can I obtain?

It depends on each country's system, your activity, employee count and localisation ratios. We explain it after the activity is defined.

Tax & Accounting

Are there tax or accounting obligations?

Saudi Arabia: 20% income tax on the foreign partner's share of profit and 15% VAT. UAE: 9% corporate tax on taxable income above AED 375,000. Every company must keep books.

When is VAT registration required?

In Saudi Arabia, registration is mandatory when taxable supplies exceed SAR 375,000 annually.

Do I need a financial review or audit?

It depends on the company type and the system in each country. In Saudi Arabia, companies submit annual financial statements. We explain what is required for your entity.

Visas & Residency

What residency options are linked to investment?

In Saudi Arabia, Premium Residency has categories including investor and entrepreneur categories, with a one-time fee of SAR 4,000. In the UAE: the Golden Visa. See the Golden Visa page for details.

How long do visa procedures take?

They vary by visa type and country. We provide an estimate once we know your case.

Can I include my family?

Usually yes, depending on residence type, income and each country's rules.
